Abstract
The Govt of AP approved the proposal of APGENCO to set up a Special Purpose Vehicle(SPV)
named as Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company Limited (APPDCL), a Joint Venture
Company of APGENCO and IL&FS each with 50% equity.
About APPDCL
The Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) is implementing the following
two mega Power Projects in the state to meet the Supply Demand gap of energy in the
XI and XII plans.
1. 2 x 800MW coal based Supercritical Thermal Power Station near
Krishnapatnam in Nellore District, which is about 150 Kms South of Chennai.
2. 2100MW (3 modules of each 700 MW) Combined cycle Power Plant near
Karimnagar, which is about 160 Kms north of Hyderabad.
With a view to implement these two projects on fast track mode, the Govt of AP approved
the proposal of APGENCO to set up a Special Purpose Vehicle(SPV) named as Andhra Pradesh
Power Development Company Limited (APPDCL), a Joint Venture Company of APGENCO and
IL&FS each with 50% equity.
The APPDCL has commenced its functions on 01.03.06 in site identification, land
Acquisition, statutory clearances, project report, environmental studies, availability of
inputs, project consultancy services and selection of EPC contractor based on
international competitive bidding and substantial progress has been achieved during last
six months on both projects. After award of EPC contracts, IL&FS would divest its
entire equity to APGENCO which would take up project execution and own/manage the O&M
of the Power stations there after.
