Srisailam Restoration Works Srisailam complex has a total Installed capacity of 1670 MW consisting of Right Bank Power House (7 units of 110 MW each) and Left Bank Power House (6 units of 150 MW each). Due to unprecedented floods to River Krishna during first week of October 2009, the inflows at Srisailam Dam reached a record high of 24 Lakh cusecs and Reservoir level touched a peak of 896.5 Ft. beyond its FRL of 885 Ft.
All Units of Right Bank Powerhouse as well as Left Bank Powerhouse were stopped at 19:00 Hrs. on 02-10-2009 to protect the powerhouses and safety of the personnel. Right Bank Powerhouse As the tail water level rose above the flood protection wall, Right Bank Powerhouse completely inundated by 15:00 Hrs on 03-10-2009. Consequently the draft tube gantry crane washed away completely and the approach road to powerhouse and retaining wall got damaged. All the equipment in powerhouse got completely submerged. Surge shafts and Draft tube gates were also severely damaged. After receding of flood, bailing out water from Srisailam Right Bank Powerhouse is taken up immediately by mobilizing pumps from Singareni, Neyveli Lignite Corporation apart from APGENCO power stations. 90% dewatering is completed so far. Removal of debris, cleaning of floors is in progress. Removal of damaged walls is in progress. Concreting of Draft Tube deck slab and laying of approach roads are under progress. M/s BHEL have already commenced restoration works in the floors, cleared out of water & slush. Dismantling of generators is in progress. Orders placed for damaged equipment on M/s BHEL, M/s TELK & other agencies. APGENCO employees and other agencies engaged with restoration works are working round the clock to bring back all units into service at the earliest. First Unit is programmed to commission by 05-12-2009 and balance 6 Units by 31-01-2010 with an interval of 10 days for each unit. Left Bank Powerhouse The entry point of Inclined Adit tunnel was plugged with cement concrete to prevent entry of flood water and the Crown Adit to powerhouse was totally plugged to avoid ingress of any water into powerhouse. However, the tail race surge cavern has experienced heavy thrust of water and continuous splashing resulted in complete flooding of surge cavern causing damage to the draft tube gates of all units. Civil structures of DG set and Ventilation equipment building were also damaged. Rectification of Draft Tube gates is taken up on war footing basis. Generation from 4 units is resumed after rectification of gates. Balance 2 Units will be put into service in a couple of days.
